I must apologize. I really suck at this whole blogging thing. Regular updates? What’s that? About as foreign to me as cars are to the Amish. Speaking of which, with gas prices as they are now, doesn’t seem like such a bad lifestyle. I read somewhere that some jurisdictions are actually employing mounted patrols because of these high prices.
So anyway, one of the TV shows I’ve watching lately is America’s Got Talent! You’ve heard of that right? Maybe even seen an episode or two? I hope so. I love it. Watching acts from all over the country, cheering on those pursuing their dreams, years of hard work finally paying off; laughing at those clearly just wanting their fifteen minutes of fame (humiliation, for most). What irks me the most is how the episodes have become some predictable lately. Now how do you make a talent competition predictable? Well, they can’t show every act in a mere sixty minute time frame. Generally, they try and group the acts by a theme (e.g. magicians, singing, etc), which is fine. What I find out ridiculous is how absolutely corny they’ve made the endings. Now, I understand that you want to end every episode with a bang! But do you really have to hype up whatever sob story the contestant has, show clips of it in commercials for a week, more teaser clips before commercial breaks during the actual show, then cheesy dramatic music before and after they perform? Come on now. Throw me a chip and bail me out before I drown in the cheesiness. While the contestant may have a compelling, heartfelt, even inspiring, story, beating the viewers with it over and over only serves to demean their stories. Despite this, some of these people are really really good, and for that alone, you should watch this show – just ignore the commercials : D
