Be Not Boring

March 12, 2009

It’s too often that we forget these words. It’s too often that we get so wrapped up in ourselves that we forget we have an audience. Dale Carnegie in his groundbreaking book, How to Win Friends and Influence People, tells us that the secret to being a great conversationalist is to listen to your audience (whether it’s one person or one hundred people) and then talk about what they want to hear, what they’re interested in.

Listen. Interact. Engage.

  1. But what if you don’t know anything about the things they’re interested in? You’ll just end up talking out of your *cough*

  2. Then ask them. It’s awesome learning new things. Then you can share that cool factoid with the next person you meet.

Definitely don’t try to bullshit and pretend you know about the subject when you clearly don’t. They’ll be able to detect it, and you’ll come across as fake. I think too people people overlook/underestimate the power of genuine interest..

  3. Agree!
